Glenys joined Vision Education following on from her role as Deputy Principal in a large Auckland primary school. As Deputy Principal she had responsibility for SENCO, TIC ESOL and developing Literacy Curriculum and Assessment. As DP, Glenys was involved in a number of Structured Literacy initiatives through her word and was also the school lead for Programmes for Students ALL. Additionally, Glenys led a schoolwide approach to Universal Design for Learning, a 3-year MOE funded PLD programme to upskill staff on theory behind UDL and how to implement it within the classroom. In her role as SENCO Glenys participated in extensive PLD in specific learning needs such as dyslexia, ADHD, Dysgraphia, autism, ODD, Dyspraxia, dyscalculia etc. and mentored teachers to upskill their knowledge and develop programmes to address learning needs. Glenys was also a participant in a research Project with RTLB and Massey University on Boys Learning in literacy.
As a member of the Vision team, Glenys has developed wide experience in leading professional learning in reading, writing and oral language. In 2024 she supported a large number of schools through the Programmes for Students: Accelerating literacy learning project – resulting in strong levels of acceleration for those students and teachers she mentored. Glenys has strong knowledge of the revised English Curriculum (2024), having worked with this document in 2024, and in use of assessment tools that include asTTle reading, asTTLe writing, Adaptive Bryant, Dibels and diagnostic assessments such as letter sound tests, psudeo word tests, and records of oral reading. She is trained to introduce and support teachers to use the Ready to Read scope and sequence, along with a range of other resources used by schools.
