Leitia has been with Vision Education for 16 years and has 11 years of experience in Programmes for Students – Accelerating literacy learning – including holding the co-national leader responsibility for this work in 2022 and 2023. She has extensive expertise in developing Culturally responsive pedagogies and has produced a wide range of videos and resources (many of these through MOE contracts) to integrate explicit literacy instruction across a scope and sequence within a culturally responsive pedagogical framework. Leitia has had responsibility for enacting the CODE-ED structured literacy approaches – working closely with developer Joy Allcock, most recently the resources Catch up the Code and Sort out Your Syllables and has provided in-depth support for teachers and leaders in developing class and school wide approaches to explicit teaching of reading. She has wide expertise in both diagnostic and summative reading and writing assessment, having worked extensively with asTTle, PACT and Leitia has attended and presented at numerous literacy conferences including those across Aotearoa, Australia and the USA in the course of her role as literacy coach and mentor and is committed to supporting all students to learn to read.
